International Women's Day 2026

Updated August 24, 2026

On International Women’s Day, I’m proud to recognize the women of PEI and especially the work they do simply because they care. I thought I'd share information about some programs that try to help - even if there is always room for improvement 💜. Women are more likely to be unpaid caregivers, single parents, survivors of gender‑based violence, and seniors living on fixed incomes. That's why provincial programs like these matter:
  • At‑Home Caregiver Benefit — recognizing and supporting unpaid caregivers
    • 📞 1‑800‑371‑8245
    • 🌐 https://www.princeedwardisland.ca/en/information/health-and-wellness/at-home-caregiver-benefit
  • Affordable Child Care & Child Care Subsidy - helping women work, train, or return to school
    • 📞 1‑877‑368‑5770
    • 🌐 https://www.princeedwardisland.ca/en/topic/early-learning-and-child-care
  • Housing & Safety Supports for Survivors of Family Violence - helping women and children leave unsafe situations
    • 📞 1‑800‑240‑9894 (24‑hour crisis line)
    • 🌐 https://www.princeedwardisland.ca/en/information/workforce-advanced-learning-and-population/emergency-services-for-victims-of-family
  • SkillsPEI Training Programs - helping women retrain, re‑enter the workforce, or advance their careers
    • 📞 1‑833‑734‑1873

  • Pharmacare & Seniors Supports - easing medication and cost‑of‑living pressures for older women
