Summary - Health & Wellness Committee - Feb 23, 2016

On February 23, 2016 I attended a meeting of the Standing Committee on Health and Wellness focused on supports for grandparents as primary caregivers.

Below is a summary of decisions.

Moving forward with Motion No. 60 (Supports for grandparents acting as primary care givers):
- Thanks to all for a good discussion following yesterday's presentations, with some great suggestions for future presenters on this topic, including: the PEI Seniors Federation and the PEI Foster Parents Association. There were many other suggestions, so I will compile a complete list once the transcript of yesterday's meeting is available.
Presentations:
- I have attached an electronic version of the Minister of Family and Human Services' presentation to this email for your interest.
- The Grandparents Support Group submitted two documents:
  1. The Community Legal Information Association's information booklet titled "Grandparents Parenting on PEI" (which is out-of-date as of July 7, 2025);
  2. A poem written by Cynthia Poirier.
New Business:
- Under new business, two items were suggested by Brad Trivers, and will be on the agenda for discussion by the committee at a future time:
  1. Child care subsidies;
  2. Seniors engagement.
Next meeting of this committee:
- The Standing Committee on Health and Wellness is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, March 8 at 1:30 pm in the Committee Room of the J. Angus MacLean Building to meet with Hon. Robert Henderson, Minister of Health and Wellness on the topic of out-of-province health care expenditures.
